I dropped by Best Buy tonight and drooled over the Motorola Xoom tablet. I've heard various mixed reviews, but I have to say from my preliminary handling, price aside, it is very very pretty.
The Honeycomb version of Android that the Xoom runs along the interface they have thrown on it make navigating a little different from the Froyo and Gingerbread to which I'm accustomed. Control buttons like home and menu are on-screen. Menuing is a little different and I know if I go there, it will take a bit of playing to learn it.
I didn't want to hog it all to myself for too long, but I did play with a few of the apps and the browser, and I have to say it is incredibly snappy. I like to think my MyTouch 4G is snappy, but this tablet is FAST! Apps open and close quickly and functionality in them is notably quick.
Generally, for a 10.1 inch display, I find it rather light. And it feels good in the hand from what I can tell (keeping in mind it's got one of those huge anti-theft thingies stuck to it while it's in the store.
I'm looking forward to seeing what Samsung's version will look like since it will be slightly lighter, but remarkably similar.
With the Notion Ink Adam not getting great press just yet, I think it is going to take them a while to really become a contender. In the meantime, there are a lot of others stepping up, and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of it.
