For what it is worth, I think that consistently looking at spaces to make them a little more usable results, over the years, into a realization that, "Oh wow... the house is tidy!"
And it becomes easier to maintain when you get there.
Unfortunately, for me, it was a process of decades. *wince* I am not tidy by nature, either.
