I realize I've been updating Facebook with my daily holiday music picks, but it might be nice to post them here as well.

That does mean I'm catching up with 8 of them today. So.. um.. well.. :-D

Danny Fong does nifty multitrack vocal videos of himself and his brother and sometimes his other gig mates. I got blown away by the version of Scarborough Fair he did that you can find with a little digging.
But since it's that time of year, I'm planning on posting nifty versions of holiday songs I find. Or ones that might be sentimental.
Here's Danny doing a time-split classic.

Walk Off The Earth has become a YouTube guilty pleasure for me. They do fantastic videos and make really great music! If you haven't dived deep into this group, you really should.

A drummer from San Francisco by the name of Jerry Granelli helped lay down some of Guaraldi's most iconic tracks which became part of the Peanut's Charlie Brown Christmas. Jerry is the only surviving member of the original trio, and here he is bringing back one of my favorites.

Perry Como always played a big part of my Christmastime when I was a kid. My mom was very enamored, and while I know she played other albums throughout the year, his Christmas albums were the ones that stuck in my head.
The sounds and bits of this song sit in my brain with happy times. While the lyrics are ironic for me these days, it still elicits a certain comfort for me, and a reminder of the good times.

I've been very fond of the Punch Brothers for a number of years now. They combine exquisite musicianship with an amazing sense of style. Their contributions to the Newgrass genre are amazing!
Here is the group with their take of a Christmas hymn.

Music is s very social thing for me. I love trading music and learning about new-to-me bands through someone else's passion.
Some years ago, when i was still in NM, I remember sharing music with one of my co-workers. I presented him with Chick Corea's Akoustic Band album, and he Béla Fleck and the Flecktones UFO TOFU album. Since that day, I've been a rather good follower of he and the boys, and now he with his wife, Abigail Washburn.
He and the Flecktones have redefined musical genres, and have brought a new sense to what banjo is and means.
Here are he and the boys playing some Christmas Bach.

I'm always amused to think about the music I had as a kid. My influences were all over the place, and on top of that, my dad had friends that were in radio, and periodically, I'd get their old cast-off 45's that were either too beat up or out of style. It's been fun over the years looking back at some of those, and realizing what I was actually listening to. I wasn't very aware of artists as a kid, so if I ended up with a huge bin of 45s, I was always told to listen to stuff and keep what I liked. So I did. And in the later years, I was always amazed to either recognize or just learn about the music I pulled out of bins.
This record is not necessarily among the finds. This was a Christmas gift from family that I got to go with my first LP player long ago. But thinking about it reminded me of my early musical appreciations and how far and wide-reaching they tended to be.

Dave Brubeck has been on my musical radar for as long as i can remember. Mom owned the Take Five album, and she enjoyed listening to what Dave does with time and meter.
I had the pleasure of meeting him when I was 19, and I've been a loyal fan ever since. I've spread the word and had lots of people join me on his local visits.
I'm of course sad we lost him a little over three years ago, but his music continues to weigh heavy in my usual rotations.
Which is to say that Christmas music isn't Christmas music without some Dave.
