Christmas time is here!
Mar. 3rd, 2020 03:35 amThere are at least two of us in the household that really really love the spirit of Christmas and have a good time getting up the decorations as early as appropriately possible, and keeping them up as long as the household can stand it. I often joke that if we can make it to my birthday (Feb 9th) then I'm perfectly happy with that. Usually we get them down in the first week or two of January.
This year, due to circumstance and travel plans and various other things, we never were able to make the time, so they stayed up.. well into my birthday! :) Those circumstances had me feeling like we rushed through the holiday months, so having it linger was a big blessing for me.
A 10 day trip to the UK and recovering from that coupled with catching up on other things and generally the year trouncing us for time so quickly left the decorations still up. The tree still standing. We've officially made it to the next birthday in the household. :-)
This week, and possibly as early as tonight, we'll take it down and tuck it away until after Thanksgiving this year. And we'll likely seal the deal with a Christmas movie that the hustle and bustle had us missing out on this last year.
How are you for decorations? You have set rituals/plans to get them up and down?

Date: 2020-03-03 03:20 pm (UTC)It's not that I don't love Christmas (what with it being my birthday, named after it and kind of a big deal in my family and all), but I do like the Christmas season to be more or less in December and certainly between Thanksgiving and New Year.
Lately, the ritual has been setting up the day after Thanksgiving because my son is usually visiting then. We often take them down hovering around New Years.
I've also got a box of pretty, shiny, wintery-blue and white decorations that we use for January now. I like it as it eases the Christmas being over blues, and gives us something else that's confined to January to enjoy.
We also do reds, roses and pinks for February, and then change to green for March. I still don't have a St. Patrick's centerpiece that makes me happy, though.
Then for April we do Easter. After that, we have generic spring and summer decorations until September.
I know, I know... it sounds so Martha Stewart, but seasonal decorations are usually a centerpiece, a relevant-colored tablecloth and changing the candles on the table to match. December is really the only time we go all-out.

Date: 2020-03-03 09:43 pm (UTC)When I receive Christmas cards or Birthday cards I put them up where I can see them from the couch. And I clear them away when I get around to it, which can take a couple years.
I admire people who have the drive to decorate but I am neither into the effort nor the constant change.
Also, living alone it is not easy to get into any kind of seasonal spirit.
And Christmas is not a big deal for me. I appreciate the opportunity to getting touch with people again and do each other a kindness, but I do not otherwise celebrate.
