Bleah.

I'm in the throes of a nice cold and it's also having digestive repercussions as well.

Then again, I'm realizing the slight amount (relative to the whole) of weight gain (and really the effects of being further out of shape) I've had lately is affecting me in all sorts of ways including changing my breathing, discomfort during and after eating, flexibility, and the fact that my old friend acid reflux is back to say hello. Nothing quite as jarring for me or my partner as waking up at o'dark'thirty having aspirated digestive fluids.

So.. um.. yeah..

Part of it is that with the busy-busy, I get more lazy with meals, and it all goes downhill after that.

I've never been a fan of dieting per se. The entire concept in the grand scheme of health is ridiculous and delusional. The plan is always to change daily habit and build a new preferred habit that introduces some level of moderation and also improves general food intake. The idea that this "diet" has no end date. No expiration date.

Part of that for me will be finding a way to come up with meal ideas that are both healthy and easy to make, and finding a way to relieve myself of the "what should I make for dinner tonight" syndrome from which I tend to suffer where boredom and the disinterest in making a decision gets the better of me, and I reach towards less healthy options.

Surprisingly, with all the sweets and baking I've done lately, I haven't partaken of my own stuff much at all. I've been working hard to give most of it away. :-) In fact, I just gave away almost a pound and a half of fudge last night. :-D Sorry Bob. :-(

I read a piece lately on Alton Brown's dietary ideas, and his mirror a lot of others out there. Lots of non-animal protein, veggies, nuts, minimal animal protein, and plenty of oily fish. Coupling those ideas with a cute gift idea I saw on Etsy where food items are placed on the sides of large wooden dice where you roll your meal ideas, I think some element of that will help. Basically having protein, veg, and carbs chosen, and then finding a creative way to get those together. And maybe even incorporating some seasonal random ideas to reflect fruits and veg that are better found at various times during the year.

At any rate, I'm just rambling about where I'm headed. It is less about the end of the year/new year resolve and more about the fact that today, at this very moment, I feel like crap, and I am in control of at least 80% of why.
