Why Gen Z Loves Closed Captioning

I generally find that captions on media for me is a distraction enough to take away from the visuals of the media. My mind wants to read them, and I miss things. But I appreciate that they exist for those that need them. And it is fascinating to see work being done on uses I've already come to understand from those around me. :-)

I always turn on captions when they're available. I think partly it helps with focus and partly my hearing is not really getting any better with age, so it stops me from having to turn things up full-blast. I don't really find them distracting, but that's probably because when I was growing up about 50% of TV content was "foreign" (mostly American or British) and therefore subtitled... :)

I generally don't use or need captions, but also have no trouble watching foreign films w/subtitles. Fascinating article; thanks for posting!
